Teen charged with shooting Commanders RB Brian Robinson failed to appear for sentencing

One of two teenagers charged with shooting Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson last August failed to appear in court Wednesday for sentencing, per Keith L. Alexander of The Washington Post.

The 17-year-old was expected to get sentenced at the D.C. Superior Court after pleading guilty to assault with a dangerous weapon and carrying a gun without a license. As part of a plea deal, the teen was set to be in custody until he turned 20 years old.

He was allowed to stay home with his mother with GPS monitoring while awaiting sentencing. However, his mother and lawyer did not know his whereabouts. Youth service officials are now seeking to bring the teen into custody.

A second teen, 14 at the time of the shooting, was sentenced as a juvenile and be jailed until he 21 years old.

According to D.C. Police, the two teens attempted to rob Brian Robinson on H Street in NE as the football player left a store. Robinson tried to get away before wrestling with one of the teens. The second teen opened fire, hitting Robinson twice, once in the hip and once in his knee.

Miraculously, Robinson avoided damage to any major ligaments and bones. The incident happened one day after the Commanders’ preseason finale against the Baltimore Ravens. As a rookie, Robinson emerged as the lead running back. However, his injuries forced him to miss the first four games of the regular season.

After making his NFL debut in Week 5, Robinson appeared in 12 games, rushing for 797 yards and two touchdowns.
