Nats prospect Elijah Green to start rehab assignment

Washington Nationals outfield prospect Elijah Green is back in the lineup. Green will begin his rehab assignment with the Nats’ Florida Complex League, according to Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline.

Green has been out since June 28 with a wrist injury. He most recently was with Single-A affiliate Fredericksburg. The Nats placed him on the seven-day injured list on Aug. 1.

The Nationals drafted the 19-year-old Elijah Green last year with the fifth overall pick in the MLB Draft. He’s one of the Nats’ top five prospects.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound slugger struggled before his wrist injury. Through 58 games, he’s hit .218/.327/.318 with three home runs and 29 RBI with Fredericksburg this season.

More glaring is his 106 strikeouts against 34 walks in 248 plate appearances. While he rehabs his wrist injury, he must work on his plate discipline.

Given the Nats have several top outfield prospects, including this year’s first-round second-overall draft pick Dylan Crews, Green will have time to develop without getting rushed.
