Ron Rivera was excited seeing Commanders fans doing the wave

Don’t tell the fans of the Washington Commanders it’s only preseason. They’ve been experiencing the Holiday season since July and are jubilant about the team now that Dan Snyder is no longer the owner.

The fans have brought that energy to FedEx Field for the team’s two home preseason games. Usually, the wave is not newsworthy. Yet, Saturday fans did the wave with a team victory in sight against the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Commanders defeated the Bengals to complete a perfect 3-0 preseason. Following the 21-19 win, Commanders head coach Ron Rivera collated the team’s winning with the new energy of the fans.

“S—, they did the wave,” Rivera said. “I haven’t seen the wave here. You know this is the first time. So, it was really cool, it really was. And again, there’s some energy. There’s some excitement. Hopefully, we can feed off that, build off that, it can help us.”

Forgive the Commanders’ fans. They haven’t had much to celebrate in recent years, not under Snyder. But Josh Harris is the owner with his limited partners, who include basketball legend Magic Johnson. The energy has been felt by the players as well.

It’s no guarantee that a 3-0 preseason translates into winning in the regular season. However, fans have hope for the franchise, not just about the 2023 season but the future and the team’s well-being under Harris.
