Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera is expected to miss Wednesday’s practice due to his treatment for skin cancer, according to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio will run practice in Rivera’s absence.
Rivera revealed in August he was diagnosed with skin caner in his lymph node. While Washington has been operating with business as usual since his diagnosis, there are reminders of the ordeal the head coach is facing.
He missed Washington’s first practice ahead of their season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles. Rivera also had to receive an IV at halftime against the Eagles. In Week 2, Rivera traveled separately from the team a day later in a private jet to Arizona. He then flew back to Washington ahead of the team to get rest before his Monday treatment.
Washington will face the Baltimore Ravens Sunday in Week 4. Washington enters the week 1-2, looking to snap a two-game losing streak against the 2019 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson. And they may have to do so without it’s star rookie defensive end Chase Young.
