Washington Football Team player tests positive for COVID-19

The Washington Football Team has entered the NFL’s intensive protocols after a player tested positive for COVID-19. The team announced Tuesday morning, the player is being self-isolated and all of the player’s close contacts have been told to quarantine.

Washington will conduct all meetings virtually this week and their practice facility will be be opened to staff with limited access for players.

The unidentified player has not been at the team’s facility over the past three days. He also did not travel with with the team to Detroit for last week’s game against the Lions, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

According to Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post, the player is currently on injured reserve.

This is Washington’s first COVID-19 case of the regular season. Rookie wide receiver Antonio Gandy-Golden confirmed he tested positive in May before training camp. Tight end Logan Thomas was placed on the COVID-19 list at the start of training camp in late July.

Washington (2-7) is scheduled to host the Cincinnati Bengals (2-6-1) Sunday at FedEx Field. The team has already announced fans will be prohibited to attend the game amid the recent surge of coronavirus cases throughout the state of Maryland, where they play their home games.
