The Washington Football Team will be without Deshazor Everett for the second straight week. The starting free safety has been ruled out for Thursday’s pivotal game against the Dallas Cowboys with an ankle injury, the team announced.
Everett missed Sunday’s win over the Cincinnati Bengals. Troy Apke, who started against the Bengals, is expected to start in Everett’s place against the Cowboys. Apke played all 68 defensive snaps against Cincinnati, despite Washington signing Cole Luke from their practice squad as an insurance.
Apke started the first five games of the season after beating out Sean Davis in training camp. However, the Penn State product struggled mightily before he was benched in favor of Everett.
Everett had been able to sure up the backend of Washington’s defense, making them one of the better pass defenses in the NFL. In four starts, Everett has 18 tackles, two pass defensed and one forced fumble.
In addition to Everett, Washington has ruled out defensive end Ryan Anderson (knee) and linebacker Jared Norris (hamstring). Wide receiver Terry McLaurin (ankle), kicker Dustin Hopkins (right groin) and left tackle Cornelius Lucas (ankle) are listed as questionable.
Lucas missed last week’s game against the Bengals. Morgan Moses shifted from right tackle to start at left tackle in his place. David Sharpe started in Moses’ place at right tackle.
