Russell Westbrook takes blame for stooping to Rajon Rondo’s level with ejection

Russell Westbrook was having one of his better games of the season against the Atlanta Hawks. However, his night came to an abrupt end as he was ejected from the game two minutes into the fourth quarter.

Westbrook had a season-high 26 points in 27 minutes but he let his emotions get the best of him. He went back and forth throughout the game jawing with Hawks guard Rajon Rondo that culminated with the ejection.

Following the Wizards’ 116-100 loss, Westbrook took blame for stooping down to Rondo’s level.

“Honestly, it’s more on me,” Westbrook said per Fred Katz of The Athletic. “I cannot allow myself to stoop down to anybody’s level. That’s not my character, who I am.”

Westbrook and Rondo were called for a double-technical in the second quarter after a heated exchange. The tension never subdued as the game went on. Then in the fourth quarter while battling under the basket, Westbrook gave a shove to Rondo, drawing his second technical.

Rondo waved goodbye to Westbrook following the ejection. Meanwhile, Westbrook was forced to watch the final 10 minutes from the locker room, as the Wizards lost their forth straight to fall to a league-worst 3-12 record.
