Christian Darrisaw says playing for Washington would be ‘dream come true’

Playing for the Washington Football Team would be a “dream come true” for Virginia Tech offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw. Darrisaw has been linked to Washington by various NFL mock drafts.

Washington, who selects 19th in the first round of April’s NFL Draft, has a need at left tackle. Darrisaw is ranked as the third offensive tackle prospect in this year’s draft.

Darrisaw played high school at Riverdale Baptist in Upper Marlboro, Maryland which is just six miles away from Washington’s home stadium FedEx Field.

“Being a fan when I was a little kid, it would be a dream come true,” Darrisaw told Andrew Siciliano while appearing on NFL Network.

Christian Darrisaw says he grew up a Washington Football Team fan. That’s despite his mother being a Philadelphia Eagles fan and his father being a Baltimore Ravens fan.

“It would definitely mean a lot, just being back home and being able to put on that Burgundy and Gold,” Darrisaw added.

Darrisaw, who stands 6-foot-5, 314 pounds, became a starter at left tackle as a freshman for the Hokies. He started every game during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. He was named first-team All-ACC in 2020.

Washington Football general manager Martin Mayhew and executive Marty Hurney were in attendance of Darrisaw’s pro day at Virginia Tech last week.

Darrisaw said he spoke with Mayhew and Washington offensive line coach John Matsko.

“We had a Zoom the following day with the GM [Martin Mayhew], the O-line coach [John Matsko] and everything,” Darrisaw said per NBC Sports Washington. “We basically went over a few things they didn’t know about me, just getting to know me as a person, going over the playbook and everything. But it was a great conversation.”

Washington has addressed a number of needs in free agency. That’s included signing quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, franchise tagging All-Pro right guard Brandon Scherff, and signing wide receivers Curtis Samuel and Adam Humphries. But, left tackle remains a question mark long-term with Trent Williams now in San Francisco.

Darrisaw is a popular choice for Washington to go in the first round. If he is the pick, it would mark the third straight year Washington would turn to a PG county prospect with their first pick. Washington selected Dwayne Haskins (2019) and Chase Young (2020).
