Washington rookie LB Jamin Davis placed in concussion protocol after big hit

The Washington Football Team placed rookie linebacker Jamin Davis in the league’s concussion protocol. He did not practice Wednesday.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera said Davis reported concussion symptoms to the team after Sunday’s win at the Las Vegas Raiders.

Davis took a hard helmet-to-helmet hit from teammate Deshazor Everett on the huge collision that broke the ankle of Raiders running back Kenyan Drake. While attention immediately swayed if Drake fumbled the football and his injury, Davis stayed down on the play.

The hit occurred in the second quarter. Davis returned to the game, playing 53 defensive snaps which equated to 90% of Washington plays on defense.

Davis’ concussion comes as Washington is getting thin with injuries, especially on defense.

Earlier Wednesday, tight end Logan Thomas was placed on injured reserve with a season-ending knee injury. Defensive end Montez Sweat’s return from IR is delayed after testing positive for COVID-19

Meanwhile, safety/linebacker hybrid Landon Collins (foot) did not practice Wednesday after missing Sunday’s game against the Raiders. Washington placed his Buffalo nickel replacement, Khaleke Hudson, on IR Tuesday with an ankle injury.

Being down three of their top four linebackers is problematic for preparation heading into this week’s pivotal game against their divisional rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.
