The Washington Football Team will have their big reveal for their new name in six days. However, fans and media have combed through crumbs of evidence in hopes of getting a hint towards what the new name will be.
Now, we have the biggest piece of evidence yet. A registered domain certainly points in the direction of being the new name for the NFL’s Washington franchise.
According to Whois internet record listing, commanders.com was transferred from Namecheap to domain server MarkMonitor Wednesday evening (h/t Larry Legend/Twitter).
MarkMonitor hosts 25 of the NFL’s 32 official team websites.
Six of the teams that don’t use MarkMonitor use Network Solutions. The Washington Football Team uses GoDaddy for their temporary domain, washingtonfootball.com.
Commanders was confirmed as one of the finalists names the Washington franchise considered. Info on commanders.com surfacing less than a week away from name being revealed is one heck of a hint. Given the league’s track record with domain registrations, this could be a confirmation.
Washington fans and media have recently speculated Commanders will be the team’s new name. A video promoting the name change showed a possible logo reading “Commanders” sitting on the arm of a chair next to team president Jason Wright.
All signs for the time being surely points to one name, the Commanders.
