LaVar Arrington was once a highly-touted first-round draft pick of the Washington Commanders franchise. However, he and Commanders owner Dan Snyder have had an ongoing feud since Arrington left the organization in 2006.
In light of the allegations that continue to pile up against Snyder, Arrington now wants an “official public apology” from Snyder.
Earlier this week, Arrington expressed how right he was about Snyder while appearing on Fox Sports Radio’s Pros and a Cup of Joe.
“All of these things coming out, I literally was the first one that spoke on what was going on. And I don’t want a pat on the back. I don’t need to think about if I could file a lawsuit against this guy, against the team. I love the city, love the fans, always loved the team. I just didn’t like the way the owner did business, and I talked about it.”
The organization has had a tumultuous last two years. The constant scandals, investigations and organizational gaffes have put Snyder in the hot seat of public perception.
Snyder is facing sexual harassment accusations from former employee Tiffani Johnston. She revealed her claims to the U.S. House Oversight and Reform Committee following a year-long investigation into the team’s workplace culture.
The committee was tipped off by another former employee about the Commanders allegedly withholding ticket revenue from the NFL which prompted Congress to report the allegations to the Federal Trade Commission.
“I would love to have an official public apology because it strained my relationship with with the city and in a lot of ways it derailed my career because I didn’t want to play anymore. It was so difficult dealing with those conditions. It sucked the love out of you, to want to go to work every day… And I’m sure a lot of people have shared those sentiments for a really, really long time.”
In the past Arrington has called out Snyder for being the root of the franchise’s toxic culture. In 2014, Snyder issued Arrington a cease-and-desist letter after the former linebacker used a photo of himself wearing a Washington uniform for a football camp.
Given their long-standing feud, the odds of Snyder apologizing to Arrington doesn’t seem great.
