Current NBA players and former teammates Spencer Dinwiddie and Kyle Kuzma have been trading jabs at each other. In the process, former Los Angeles Lakers mainstay Rick Fox caught a stray. However, Fox has since responded with his own clap-back directed at Dinwiddie.
The feud between Dinwiddie and Kuzma goes back to January after Kuzma’s team, the Washington Wizards, defeated Dinwiddie’s team at the time, the Dallas Mavericks.
Kuzma tweeted, “The funny thing is they don’t play winning basketball,” in response to Dinwiddie’s post-game quote after losing to his former team.
Well, Dinwiddie didn’t respond until earlier this week, calling out Kuzma for being more focused on his social life, particularly with fashion, piling stats, and getting a new contract.
Kuzma wasted no time firing back with a Twitter thread highlighted by giving Dinwiddie a derogatory name and calling him out for the Wizards trading him in the first year of a three-year deal.
“Insecurity is loud? The Wizards and I have so much real estate on Din[expletive] Island,” Kuzma tweeted. “This guy got signed by a team 60ms and was traded before the following season was over.”
As Dinwiddie prepares for the playoffs with his new team, the Brooklyn Nets, he responded to Kuzma comparing his role with the Los Angeles Lakers championship in 2020 to Rick Fox.
“He resorted to some name-calling, Dinsh—ie, last time I [heard that I] was 10 years old,” Dinwiddie said via SNYNets. “We don’t get mad at Rick Fox for winning a championship with Kobe & Shaq. We can’t act like Rick Fox led them to the championship.”
Fox didn’t take kindly to the indirect jab and entered the chat creating a new layer to the Dinwiddie-Kuzma saga.
Fox reminded Dinwiddie he was a captain for a team that three-peated. Playing next to Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant, Fox sacrificed his offense for the better of three championship teams. There is denying Fox’s role was integral to the Lakers’ dynasty.
The same argument for Fox fits Kuzma, who was third in scoring on his team with 12.8 points per game behind LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Kuzma averaged more points before James and Davis joined the team and after he got traded to the Wizards.
Honestly, comparing Kuzma to Fox may actually be a compliment to Kuzma. Nonetheless, the rivalry between Dinwiddie and Kuzma is more about their short time as teammates in Washington. It may be wise to keep the shots directed at the guy he has legit beef with.
