The Washington Redskins have officially fired team president Bruce Allen after 10 seasons. In a released statement, owner Dan Snyder said Allen has been removed from the organization.

Doubt of Allen’s future with the Redskins grew towards the end of the team’s 3-13 season. Reports surfaced ahead of their Week 17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, that Allen would be removed from football operations. He was initially rumored to be reassigned. Many fans were skeptical of Allen remaining with the organization in large due to the handling of former general manager Scot McCloughan.

But that will not be the case, as Allen is gone. For a decade the Redskins embraced losing and a circus culture that was filled with drama headlines. Still Allen seemed immune to being removed, however, all came to a head this season.

Trent Williams’ holdout situation painted Allen in a bad light, as the team president refused to resolve the matter by trading Williams. Following a 0-5 start to the season, the team fired head coach Jay Gruden, but fans called for Allen’s firing.

As the team continued to lose, fan interest decreased and home attendance declined so much FedEx Field was a haven for visiting teams’ fans.

Snyder reportedly consulted with a small group of football people outside of the organization about the direction of the team, and Allen’s relationship with Snyder seemingly soured. As the Redskins hit the reset button, the rebuild had to start with the removal of Allen from football operations. Removing him completely from the organization is a huge win for fan interest and the franchise moving forward.
