Report: Dwayne Haskins fined $40k for violating COVID-19 protocol

In addition to being stripped of his captaincy with the Washington Football Team, quarterback Dwayne Haskins was fined $40,000 by the team for violating the NFL’s coronavirus protocols, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. It’s the largest player fine for a COVID-19 violation, which accounts for nearly half of Haskins’ weekly salary.

Haskins attended a party with strippers while not wearing a mask. He issued a public apology on Tuesday after meeting with Washington head coach Ron Rivera. He also apologized to his teammates in person.

“There are a lot of things I could’ve done,” Rivera told reporters Wednesday, per Nicki Jhabvala of the Washington Post. “But in conversations with the league and looking at things that were done around the league, we felt that we would fine him and move on.”

Despite the punishment, Haskins took first-team reps at practice Wednesday. He is also in line to start on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, if starter Alex Smith is forced to miss a second straight game due to a right calf injury.

Dwayne Haskins was fined earlier this season for a COVID-19 violation. In Week 6, he booked a room for a friend at the team hotel ahead of Washington’s game at the New York Giants.
