Washington reportedly has not called about Deshaun Watson

It’s evidently clear the Washington Football Team is searching for a viable starting quarterback to anchor their up and coming team. The NFC East champions missed out on Matthew Stafford and have been linked Derek Carr, Marcus Mariota and Sam Darnold. However, Washington hasn’t inquired about arguably the most marquee name on the trade market, Houston Texans’ Deshaun Watson.

According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Washington is not one of the several NFL teams that have called the Texans about a potential trade.

“I have not heard Washington come up one time,” McClain told 106.7 The Fan’s Brian Mitchell and JP Finlay. “But, I never heard Arizona come up one time for J.J. Watt, either. There’s been at least five teams that have called, and you know there will be more, because if you need a quarterback, why not inquire?”

The Texans have been steadfast about not entertaining calls about the disgruntled Watson. That’s despite Watson being adamant he wants out of Houston. Maybe, Washington is waiting for the situation to clear up. Or it may be the asking price for the caliber player of Watson would be just too steep.

Washington has built a strong young core that overrode struggles at quarterback in 2020 to win the NFC East and make the playoffs. Yes, they’re a talented team that is a viable QB away from being serious contenders. However, there are still a few more holes to plug other than quarterback.

The draft capital and return it may take to grab Deshaun Watson may actually defeat the purpose for a team like Washington to go after him in a trade.
