The news surrounding the Maryland women’s basketball program continues to be bleak. Five of the Terrapins’ top-six scorers from this past season have entered the transfer portal. Now, the lone remaining player Diamond Miller is set to undergo knee surgery Thursday, according to the Washington Post’s Kareem Copeland.
Miller is expected to be out three-to-six months for recovery.
Diamond Miller battled with a knee injury throughout this past season. She missed 10 of the Terrapins’ first 12 games. When she returned it took some time for her to get going. But it was clear she never felt 100 percent.
In 22 games, Miller averaged 13.1 points, 4.0 rebounds. 2.8 assists and 1.4 steals. She shot 40.8% from the field, including 31.6% from three. Decent numbers but a far cry from what she did in 2020-21 when she earned a first-team All-Big Ten selection and co-Most Outstanding Player of the Big Ten Tournament.
Her recovery timetable may keep her out as late as October. But hopefully the surgery will correct whatever issues she has with her knee. All eyes will be on Miller and her future given that Angel Reese, Ashley Owusu, Mimi Collins and two other reserves have entered the transfer portal in the last two days.
