Maryland QB Taulia Tagovailoa carted off field with apparent knee injury

Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa got carted off the field early in the fourth quarter against Indiana with an apparent knee injury. The sight added to a tumultuous couple of weeks for the Tagovailoa family.

Indiana defensive lineman James Head Jr. appeared to be blocked into the right knee of Tagovailoa as the quarterback released a throw downfield.

Tagovailoa went down and immediately grabbed his knee, writhing in pain on the ground. The cart took Tagovailoa to the locker room in Bloomington, Indiana, for further evaluation. Tagovailoa was wearing a brace on the knee from a previous injury earlier this season.

Tagovailoa exited the game 25-of-39 passing for 270 yards and two touchdowns. He added a rushing touchdown as well.

Wake Forest transfer Billy Edwards Jr. replaced Tagovailoa at quarterback for Maryland.

Tagovailoa’s injury comes two weeks after his older brother and Miami Dolphins quarterback, Tua, got carted off the field with a severe concussion during an NFL Thursday Night Football game. The hit left Tua in a fencing posture.

Taulia Tagovailoa has been the main dominator for the Terrapins in his third season as starting quarterback. He is third on Maryland’s all-time passing list. Many consider Tagovailoa one of the best quarterbacks in the country.

Maryland faithful surely will be hoping for the best for Tagovailoa in hopes the injury isn’t as bad as it appeared.
