Dan Snyder vows for ‘New culture’ in response to Washington Post story

Washington Football Team owner Dan Snyder responded to the bombshell Washington Post story that broke Thursday. Snyder vowed to create new culture that is “respectful and inclusive of all.”

“The behavior described in yesterday’s Washington Post article has no place in our franchise or society. This story has strengthened my commitment to setting a new culture and standard for our team, a process that began with the hiring of Coach Rivera earlier this year.

Beth Wilkinson and her firm are empowered to do a full, unbiased investigation and make any and all requisite recommendations. Upon completion of her work, we will institute new policies and procedures and strengthen our human resources infrastructure to not only avoid these issues in the future but most importantly create a team culture that is respectful and inclusive of all.”

Lost in Snyder’s statement is an apology to the 15 women who accused Washington officials of sexual harassment, verbal abuse and other inappropriate behavior. He also misses the opportunity to take responsibility for the despicable actions occurring under his leadership.

The team hired high-profiled attorney Beth Wilkinson shortly before the Post’s story broke. In his statement, Snyder says Wilkins and her firm will conduct an “unbiased” investigation and the team will strengthen its human resources infrastructure.

All facing accusations in the article have departed from the organization, including former director of pro personnel Alex Santos and play-by-play voice Larry Michael.

Santos was fired last week after the team was informed of the tantalizing story. Among the accusations against him, included harassing two female reporters. Michael abruptly retired Wednesday, hours after the Post requested an interview with him and informed the team he was being implicated in the article. Michael was with the team for 16 years.

The National Football League also released a statement, regarding the allegations against Washington.

“These matters as reported are serious, disturbing and contrary to the NFL’s values,” the statement read. “Everyone in the NFL has the right to work in an environment free from any and all forms of harassment.”
