NFL owners ‘counting votes’ towards possibly forcing Dan Snyder out

NFL owners usually look out for each other no matter the circumstances. However, they may have had enough of one of their own in Daniel Snyder.

According to Jarrett Bell of USA Today, an anonymous owner said the other league owners are “counting votes” to potentially force Snyder to sell the Washington Commanders.

Any such notion would require 24 votes by the owners. That’s a high number among the other 31 votes. Thus it still may feel far fetched that Snyder is removed from one of the world’s most prestigious fraternities.

But it certainly shows that the owners have taken notice of the numerous PR hits and allegations surrounding Snyder.

Since July 2020, Snyder and the Commanders franchise has been under a microscope. First more than a dozen former employees sparked an investigation by the league into the Commanders workplace culture. They made claims of sexual misconduct.

Snyder was directly implicated in allegations of sexual harassment by former Washington employee Tiffani Johnston. The league assigned attorney Mary Jo White to look into Johnston’s claims.

But what has drawn the ire of the NFL owners may come down to money. Sndyer and the Commanders are the subject of an investigation for financial improprieties by the Federal Trade Commission and the Virginia attorney general.

The Commanders allegedly withheld ticket revenue supposedly shared among the NFL teams. The team has gone back and forth in a public spat with a former employee, Jason Friedman. Friedman was a source to the FTC.

To note, attorney Beth Wilkinson who led the July 2020 investigation on the Commanders would have recommended Snyder be forced to sell the team. She would have if her findings were submitted in writing. Instead, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell requested the results be delivered orally.

The NFL fined the Commanders $10 million as a result. Snyder also stepped down from day-to-day operations of the Commanders. That role was turned over to his wife Tanya Snyder.
