Washington signing DE Nate Orchard to 53-man roster

The Washington Football Team is signing defensive end Nate Orchard from their practice squad to the 53-man active roster, according to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network.

Orchard will be taking the roster place of injured defensive tackle Matt Ioannidis. Ioannidis is expected to be placed on season-ending injured reserve with a torn bicep.

Additionally, Orchard’s promotion adds more concern to injury status to defensive end Chase Young.

Young suffered a groin injury in Sunday’s loss at the Cleveland Browns. He was scheduled to undergo an MRI, according to Josina Anderson.

Orchard, a 2015 second-round pick, has been with Washington since 2019. Last season he appeared in five games recording a sack and recovered a crucial fumble in a Week 13 win against the Carolina Panthers. That game was Ron Rivera’s last as the Panthers head coach.
