The Washington Wizards have acquired Trevor Ariza in a three-team trade, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
The Wizards will send Kelly Oubre to the Memphis Grizzlies and Austin Rivers to the Phoenix Suns. Two additional players from Memphis — MarShon Brooks and Wayne Seldon — will head to Phoenix as well.
The Wizards will also receive a 2020 second-round draft pick and a conditional 2019 second rounder in the deal.
Ariza played two seasons with the Wizards before signing with the Houston Rockets in 2014 in free agency. With the Wizards, Ariza shot a career-high 40.7 percent from three while averaging a career-high 14.5 points in 2013-14.
Oubre is set to become a restricted free agent next summer as his rookie contract expires and with the Wizards cash strapped with three max contracts, Oubre would have walked next summer. Still the four-year pro was averaging a career-best 13 points coming into Friday’s game.
Meanwhile, Rivers was acquired in a trade this summer for Marcin Gortat from the Los Angeles Clippers but Rivers never found his footing with the team.
Washington is 11-18 on the season and was in need of making a move to help against the luxury tax as well as give the team a spark. It remains to be seen if this latest move will do the trick.
